Nick Diaz shuts down UFC comeback: 'I just want to party'

Anderson Silva’s callout for UFC 237 does not appear to have inspired Nick Diaz to make a return to the octagon.

Following Silva’s (34-8 MMA, 17-5 UFC) unanimous decision loss to Israel Adesanya (16-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) at UFC 234, the former longtime UFC middleweight champion said he would like his next fight to take place at May’s UFC 237 event, which is targeted for Curitiba, Brazil.

“The Spider” said a rematch with Diaz (26-9 MMA, 7-6 UFC) would be his top choice in matchup, and Silva even claimed he’d been in contact with the former Strikeforce champ and UFC title challenger about making it happen.

“I think it’s a very interesting fight,” Silva told reporters, including MMAjunkie, post-fight at UFC 234. “I talked to Nick’s manager a couple months ago, and Nick said, ‘OK, let’s go do it. Let’s talk to Dana (White).’ I’m just waiting for Dana.”

Nothing from Diaz’s side indicates that’s the case, though. Gilbert Melendez, a friend and longtime teammate of Diaz, said just this past week that Diaz is retired from MMA and he’s heard nothing to indicate a comeback is in the works.

Diaz appeared to validate that on social media. While engaging in some alcoholic beverages with his friends, Diaz said in his Instagram Stories that fighting is not exactly of interest.

“(Expletive) all this – I don’t want to hurt nobody,” Diaz said. “I just want to party.”
